NI/Ulster Senior XC Championchips
Congratulations to all club members who ran, coached, officiated or supported the club at the IAAF Permit International Cross Country held at Greenmount College on Saturday. The programme incorporated the Northern Ireland Senior Championships as well as being part of the UKA McCain Challenge.. In the Ladies Championship, North Down were 2nd with an individual bronze for Lauren Scott. On the way and only needing a couple of points to make it certain, they won the inaugural ANI League with a round to spare. The men were 5th in the Mens Championship. Internationally, recent European form was endorsed when Fionnuala Britton beat arch-rival Gemma Steel in a close womens race while the mens' affair was another Kenyan cleanup.

Ben takes indoor 60m record below 7 seconds
There is just no just stopping Ben Reynolds who took an astonishing 0.29 secs off his 60m pb on Sunday in Cardiff at the UWIC Grand Prix. Ben ran 6.95 secs to smash the 7.02m North Down record, held by Gareth Gettinby since 2001. Ben will go again this weekend in the Southern Championships at Lee Valley where he is also entered in 60m hurdles

English XC leagues
Josh Lowry ran for Loughborough Uni in division 1 of the Birmingham XC league at Coventry on Sat 14 Jan, finishing 139th (31:27) of 239 over the 8k course - his longest ever race! On the same day, Francis Marsh finished 25th (for Herne Hill H) in the Surrey League division 1 at Coulsdon

Jordanstown Open Indoors
The ANI Open Indoor Meeting, held on Saturday at the Jordanstown High Performance Centre, proved very popular with an entry far exceeding any meeting held previously and shaming most outdoor Open Meets. The handful of North Down athletes taking part proved the effectiveness of their winter training. Alex Catherwood was 3rd in a highly competive high jump with her 1.60m jump not only an outright pb but a North Down indoor record. Alex will miss the upcoming Odyssey Irish Championships but will compete in March at the Scottish Indoor Championships. Beth Wilson also had an outright pb in winning the shot with 9.83m, second only to Eva Massey in the North Down indoor list. Oliver Wakefield moved seamlessly into the U15 category and did not look out of place against much older opposition with 7.98 sec for 60m, 10.05 sec for 60m hurdles and 4.95m lor long jump. His hurdles time is a North Down U15 record though it looks unlikely to survive the Odyssey. Gareth Lyness ran 8.08 for 60m and long jumped 5.63m.

Moira Cross Country
The Moira Cross Country, promoted by City of Lisburn AC, may not yet be part of the ANI League, though a good case could be made for its inclusion, but numbers were well up on a year ago. In dry and crisp conditions, Jessica Craig ran well for 4th in the Senior Ladies 3 mile race in 18:29 min with Roberta Dornan, steadily coming back to full fitness, 11th in 19:19 and first F35. Also on the comeback trail, Ali Robinson was 14th in 19:56 and Rachel Gibson was 16th in 20:10. Lagan Valley won the team race from North Down with Dromore 3rd. Glen Willis opted for the U18 youths 3 milr race where he was 2nd in 16:25. In the Senior Mens 4 mile race, won by North Belfast from Lagan Valley and City of Lisburn, Darren McKee was 9th in 23:14 min with David Gray 26th in 24:58 and Norman Lellyett 51st in 29:21 - 2nd M60.
