News: Men 2nd, Girls 1st in Donegal

The rescheduled cross country meeting in Donegal incorporating the Junior Men, Intermediate/U21/masters Women and Male Masters took place on Saturday in Stranorlar on a chilly day over a traditional no-nonsense course. Not Junior or Intermediate in the age group sense, it was a successful day for North Down with the mens team 2nd to St Malachy’s and the womens team 1st..

Niall Robinson led the men home in 9th with Simon Seaton 12th, Mark Patterson 16th, James Budde 18th Nick Arkensparr 22nd and Thomas Simpson 29th.. In the girls team, the in-form Stephanie Hambling was 5th overall (1st F40) with Roberta Dornan 10th, Jessica Craig 13th (running 3.5k with only 1 shoe!), Nicola Simpson 15th and Debbie Matchett 16th (2nd F40). Jessica was also 2nd U21. In the masters race Francis Marsh was 9th overall and 4th M40 and Gerry Coy 38th and 2nd M50. It was a long trek but fully justified by the results.
